Slickrock has just received a supply of new maps of Belize by National Geographic. These maps are a significant upgrade from our previous edition of maps we have for sale, and show great detail of many aspects of the country. In addition to all the latest upgrades to roads and towns, there are new locations pinpointed for archeological sites, caves, recreation sites (diving, windsurfing, fishing, etc), and regional boundaries. But perhaps the best upgrades seen on this map are delineations for all the Marine and Ecologic Reserves throughout the country. This map can be purchased through our Slickrock office.

Last week I was on Trip Advisor answering questions about Belize, and someone requested help finding a map of the jungle lodges in Belize. This is something I have always wanted also. There are over 70 jungle lodges in the country, and many of them don’t have a map of their lodge on their own website, so it’s hard to figure out how far they are from town, which road they are on, etc.

With this request, I realized that SOMEONE needed to make a map like this, and I knew who to ask: Marty Casado of AmbergrisCaye.com. Marty has the best Belize map page of any I have seen. He has maps of the country, maps of Belize geology, maps of Belize cities and towns, maps of the Caribbean, it goes on and on. If you are looking for a map of Belize, Marty probably has it.

But guess what, he didn’t have a map of Belize jungle lodges. Once I asked him about it, he went to work, he stayed up until 2 am working on it! He started with our detailed Belize map, and a definite list of Belize jungle lodges from Lan Sluder of BelizeFirst.com and 5 days later, voila’, there was our map! Way to go Marty!

A map of Mayan ruins

Belize contains hundreds of Mayan sites. The Mayan civilization rose to its peak between 600 – 900 AD. Many large cities existed during this time, with a network of trading routes between them, and their impressive ruins can be seen today across the country. In addition to restored ruins found in Belize such as Caracol, Xunantunich, Altun Ha, and Lamanai, many other large sites exist still hidden away in the remote. Many of these are known, but many remain undiscovered. Archaeology expeditions continue every year in search of new finds.

I couldn’t find anything on the internet that showed me where Mayan ruins actually are, so I created one. If you want to find an even more detailed Belize map, we have one on our website, or you can also buy a Belize road map from us.
